Protovec-2
From Hall A Wiki
General Characteristics
- Given name Slipstream by Mike Souza.
- GE180 cell - recently received from glassblower, filling in progress (April 2012).
- Fabricated by Mike Souza during mid to late March 2012 at Princeton University. Requested dimensions same as for Protovec-1.
- During glassworking process, the pumping chamber cracked two times (first time right after installing transfer tubes with lips into pumping chamber while cooling down, second time during annealing process). Mike blamed this problem on the transfer tube lips, so Al Tobias authorized Mike to skip trying to make the lips and just complete the cell. Of course, this will limit the amount of alkali metal that can be stored on the bottom of the pumping chamber since the reservoir-pool capacity between the lip-less tubes is now much smaller and it is easier for the metal to roll down the transfer tubes without the lips (or walls).
