PVDIS Collaboration Meeting

January 6, 2012

Cebaf Center F113

Agenda and Minutes (to do list):

09:00-09:45Theory talkA. Accardi
  1. Structure functions should be computed at least in NLO (from PDF). Parton model is LO only;
  2. Fits from JLab can be made available.
09:45-10:20Calculation of PVDIS Asymmetries using Different PDF FitsX. Zheng

  1. Need to understand the error bar of CTEQ10 vs. CTEQ6 (P. Reimer will talk to a CTEQ "insider"?);
  2. Will talk to theorists on using NLO structure functions;
  3. Will look into the new "nuclear CTEQ" fits.
10:30-11:45 Analysis UpdateD. Wang
  1. Re-check Compton, write technical notes, double-check if detector non-linearity cannot solve the systematic discrepancy;
  2. Asymmetry analysis: Run lists should be updated;
  3. Resonance/radiative corrections:
    1. Will include M. Gortchsteyn's results in the comparison table;
    2. The simplest "toy model" would be using DIS only. WIll also try the "reverse scaling" (i.e. larger RES vs. DIS cross sections gives smaller RES asymmetry compare to DIS formula);
    3. Xiaochao will have a meeting with the theorists to discuss these results.
  4. (D. Armstrong): Results should be published at the acceptance averaged Q2, not the central Q2.
  5. (Z.-E. Meziani): Can we use an unfolding procedure for radiative corrections? (what's the best:) and kindly volunteered to help on this task. There were questions of whether this would work (KK or DA?).
11:50-12:45Analysis UpdateK. Pan
  1. Asymmetry results:
    1. run-based method should give the most accurate results (KK) but here clearly do not agree with methods 1 and 2. Must check the analysis;
    2. method #2 is slug-based but each slug is pair-based. Could use run-based to get the slug results, then get the slug-based asymmetries -- This is also the final method used by HAPPEX-III and PREX.
  2. The two asymmetry analyses (D. Wang vs. K. Pan) must agree to <0.1ppm.
  3. Pion asymmetry results:
    1. W exchange is pure weak x-section and should be much smaller than gamma-Z interference (KK, XZ);
    2. After the meeting, Xin Qian did a back-of-envelope calculation using the Q2 of pion electroproduction and found the asymmetry to be fraction of the PVDIS asymmetry.
    3. Xiaochao will contact theorists (A. Afanasev, C. Carlson) for possible calculations of pion asymmetries.
  4. (Kent): What is the effect of pion rate on the system deadtime? Must we simulate the pions to get the correct results? (HATS does not simulate pions so far);
12:45-12:50 Summary and Outlook, more discussionsX. Zheng
