Monitoring and Emergency Shutdown of Hall A Systems

The HRS superconducting magnets require special monitoring and control procedures. The ``Operational Safety Procedures for Hall A" containing these procedures are located on the Hall A console next to the magnet control screens/keyboards which have been made remote to the Hall A counting house. The instructions will enable the shift personnel to due routine operation of the magnets during Hall A commissioning. In addition, there are a set of nine large labeled red emergency shut down ``crash" buttons and two key switches in the center of the Hall A control room console.

The buttons have the following functions:

1.
Emergency Accelerator Shutdown (activated when beam is enabled for Hall A).
2.
Emergency power supply shutdown for Electron HRS quadrupole Q1.
3.
Emergency power supply shutdown for Electron HRS quadrupole Q2.
4.
Emergency power supply shutdown for Electron HRS quadrupole Q3.
5.
Emergency power supply shutdown for Electron HRS dipole.
6.
Emergency power supply shutdown for Hadron HRS quadrupole Q1.
7.
Emergency power supply shutdown for Hadron HRS quadrupole Q2.
8.
Emergency power supply shutdown for Hadron HRS quadrupole Q3.
9.
Emergency power supply shutdown for Hadron HRS dipole.
10.
Emergency shut down of all ``clean" power in the end station - kills clean power in both HRS shield house where the detector components are located.

The keys have the following functions:

1.
Disables power to all four Electron HRS superconducting magnet power supplies. Essentially, this key electrically locks the four Electron HRS crash buttons to their in (crash) positions. It does not disable power to the cryogenic systems or magnet control computer.
2.
Disables power to all four Hadron HRS superconducting magnet power supplies. Essentially, this key electrically locks the four Hadron HRS crash buttons to their in (crash) positions. It does not disable power to the cryogenic systems or magnet control computer.

There are also TV cameras (displayed at the Hall A console) viewing the HRS detectors, the general Hall area, the Hall A personnel access door, the targets, and the beamline phosphor viewers.
