Small Angle GDH Target Meeting
May 30, 2002
Vincent Sulkosky discussed the target
lab status:
-
Work completed:
-
Studied NMR-EPR discrepancy discovered in Feb. 2002
-
Water signal height did not match gain at 200x, problem
fixed
-
Tested cells (Duke, Patrick, Exodus)
-
Transverse tests on Exodus
-
Density corrected for etalon effect
-
EPR fiber optics tests (Long. and transverse)
-
Target system designs: pick-up coils and
epr coupler mount
-
Future work: test new cells and designs and move the
target system to Hall A (July)
Patricia Solvignon reported on EPR studies
and results:
-
EPR spectrum improvement
-
EPR and Field Feedback
-
EPR analysis: polarization diffusion to obtain
Pt and error on EPR
-
Cell results from EPR:
-
Patrick ( 24.7 +/- 1.3)%
-
Duke (46.0 +/- 0.4)%
-
Plans:
-
Finish polarization optimization
-
Optimize FFB and EPR systems
-
Polarization monitoring with EPR
-
Study of polarization loss due to EPR RF field
-
Test in transverse and longitudinal
Todd Averett gave an update of the
W&M target system:
-
Ready to fill cells at anytime (standard or c1720)
-
Window explosion tests
-
Explosions left marks and scratches but not ruptures
-
Tested with Al piece: left dents but n penetrations
-
REU student will help characterize cells at JLab
-
Use W&M system to test cells (Lifetime, etc.)
Jaideep Singh discussed the target
lab status at UVa:
-
Cell fill and characterization: Pressure broadening,
wall thickness,
and cell
volumes
-
Goals for ~ Mid-July: full polarization measurements
and EPR
polarimetry
Zein-Eddine Meziani gave an update
of cell development at Temple:
-
Cell production system ready for producing cells
-
Temple glass blower should talk to either Willie or
Mike for guidance
-
Cell Monitoring lab to test cells: NMR system
ready and EPR setup underway
Discussion on spare parts, manpower, and
other issues:
-
Spare parts:
-
Wolfgang will provide some electronics from UK
-
Design group needs to be pushed faster
-
Manpower:
-
Graduate students (Patricia Solvignon, Vincent Sulkosky,
Jing Yuan)
-
Jaideep Singh will mostly work at UVa and take some
shifts. May do some analysis
-
1 Chinese student will come in July for ~ 6 months
-
Xiaochao agreed to help work on the optics commissioning
(1 month)
-
Optics commissioning (Doug Higinbotham, Patricia S., Bryan
Moffit)
-
Piotr Zolnierczuk, Seonho Choi and Xiaodong Jiang will
help during the experiment
-
Kathy McCormick (?)
-
Issues:
-
Go to single arm experiment using R-arm at 6 degrees
-
R-arm momentum changes slow and can only go to 3 GeV
-
At higher energies (4 and 5 GeV) cannot reach QE,
delta resonance,
or second resonance
-
If second septum comes in early september, then we
can still do the
installation
and run in October
