Small Angle GDH Meeting Minutes

Jian-ping began the meeting with a brief summary of the important issues

Alexandre Deur worked on a Monte Carlo simulation for E97-110:

Alexandre tried to optimize the position of the collimator:     Other Issues Alexandre investigated:

        - Wall Thickness:

        - Large Moliere radius:        - Poor y_t, theta_t, and phi_t reconstruction

       - Radiative tails:

Discussion on which analyzer to use for E97-110:

         - VDC completed in Root/C++ analyzer
       - RCS experiment will use Root for calorimeter
       - ESPACE will be available as a back up
       - Root was used this past summer for the optics calibration
       - The Root analyzer needs to be tested with existing data (Ole)
       - Ole Hansen will add a Helicity variable to the next version of the Root Analyzer
       - Students showed support to move to the new Root Analyzer

    Run Plan by Alexandre Deur:

       - 18 days of running
       - Use HRS in parallel configuration, with 2 independent DAQs.  Total Rate ~ 6 kHz
       - Change angle ~ 1 shift (w/o survey), survey (or pre-survey position?)
       - Beam current at 10 uA with raser on.  May run at lower current
       - Water Calibration (Vince)
       - Commissioning Survey:  oven, target ladder, pick-up coils, HRS/septa
       - NMR loss measurements
       - Study residual field from septa
       - Compton: continuous running (Alexandre)
       - Moller/Mott (Alexandre/Eugene)
       - Deadtime requirement < 20%

    DAQ:

Implement high rate capability (Piotr/Bob Michaels)

    Man power/responsibilities:

        - Analyzer(C++):  Xiaofeng Zhu;  ESPACE:  Nilanga
        - Beamline:  Alexandre/Doug or Bodo
        - Target:  Students/Xiaofeng;  reference cell:  Nilanga/Todd Averett
        - Slow control:  Kathy(?), Pavel
        - Septa:  Franco/Guido
        - Detectors:  Ron Gilman
        - Optics commissioning:  Doug/Nilanga/Guido/LeRose
        - Analysis of optics data:  Nilanga/students
        - New design (collimator, cell):  Alexandre/J-P
        - Carbon Target:  Nilanga

Vincent Sulkosky discussed the target lab status:

        - Field calibrations completeted including holding field and RF field (Vince/Jindong)
        - Pick-up coils and wires replaced with new ones
        - Water signal tests completed by changing the vertical and horizontal position
            of the water cell (Vince/Jindong/Xiaofeng)
        - New Q-coil made, and several Q-curves measured (Vince)
        - Optical alignment for longitudinal paths with laser pointer completed (Patricia/Vince)
        - Wall thickness on all cells used during the experiment is completed except
for the 25 cm water cell (Vince/Jindong)
        - RTD tests being conducted (Patricia/Jindong)

Things to do for the target lab:

        - Wall thickness for the 25 cm water cell (Jindong)
        - Laser Alignment (Vince/Patricia/Xiaochao)
        - Clean optical fibers (Patricia)
        - Finish the RTD's (Patricia/Jindong)
        - Analyze water signal data (Vince/Kevin)
        - Install polarized He-3 cell (Vince)
        - Spin up tests (Vince/Jindong)
        - Setup EPR system (Patricia/Jindong/Xiaofeng)
        - Test EPR system (Jindong/Patricia/Xiaofeng)
