Shift Routines and Operating Practices

In general twenty-four hour shifts will be maintained when the experiment is taking production beam. The shift crews will consist of a minimum of two persons and in general not exceed five persons. One person per shift will be designated as the ``shift leader." This individual has the following authority and responsibilities.

1.
Primary experiment contact person between the machine control room (MCC) and experiment personnel. This includes authority to request entries into the Hall.
2.
Can authorize qualified personnel to make modifications in the experiment configuration within the allowed parameters.
3.
Overall responsibility for the proper operation of the Hall A equipment during the shift.
4.
Primary responsibility for Hall A equipment monitoring and reporting of abnormal/unusual occurrences.
5.
Primary responsibility for orderly transition of crews at shift change.

The number of persons actually on shift will depend upon the tasks assigned to that particular shift. A shift schedule shall be posted in the counting house listing the times and names of personnel on shift and identifying the leader of each shift.

The keeping of a logbook is required. Jefferson Lab provides hard bound Hall A log books in which all relevant activities are to be recorded. Private log books belonging to individuals are not permitted. The group secretary will make duplicate copies of the log books as requested. All changes and equipment failures shall be recorded in the experiment log book. In general the log book remains in the counting room for the duration of the experiment (unless it is being copied). Log entries should not be erased or covered up. Corrections can be made by placing a single line through the incorrect entry in a nearby space. All corrections should be initialed and dated. Log entries should be readily reproducible with standard photocopy machines. Black, waterproof ink is recommended.
